About
Headwaters Search and Rescue is a non-profit volunteer organization that provides trained personnel and dogs to law enforcement agencies to assist in finding lost or missing individuals. The team specializes in search operations in wilderness, wooded and semi-urban settings.
HSAR teams have responded to law enforcement agency requests throughout Wisconsin, Upper Michigan, Northern Minnesota and Canada. Generally, an immediate response can be mounted to requests by a law enforcement agency for search resources. Our toll-free emergency 800-number is manned 24 hours-a-day by dispatch personnel at the Vilas County Sheriff's department, with call-out information sent to team members via a paging system. HSAR search teams are located in Vilas, Manitowoc, Outagamie, and Waupaca counties.
Headwaters Search and Rescue K-9 is an affiliated member of the American Rescue Dog Association (ARDA). The American Rescue Dog Association is composed of six units located in Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin. The units have banded together for the purpose of providing skilled, search and rescue services to law enforcement agencies. Each unit utilizes specially trained dogs to locate missing individuals in wilderness search and disaster situations. The American Rescue Dog Association has established rigid standards for dog/handler teams and member organizations to assure that member teams develop and maintain the necessary qualifications for K9 search and rescue work.
All Headwaters Search and Rescue personnel are volunteers and are not paid for their work, training or support of their dogs. There is no charge for their services in locating missing persons. Private tax-deductible donations of money, supplies and equipment are the only sources of support for unit activities. All monetary donations enable our unit to purchase equipment and obtain continuing education.
